Serve in Denton

The diaconate outreach committee provides opportunities for members of St. Andrew to assist with community needs. The upcoming projects and ministries are:

American Red Cross Blood Drives

St. Andrew hosts a blood drive every other month. The drive takes place in the Recreation Center from 9-3 pm. Members of the community and St. Andrew members may register to donate at redcrossblood.org or through the Red Cross app. Walk ins are also welcome. If you wish to assist in checking in donors, please contact coordinator, Bob Stewart, at heybobstewart@gmail.com.

Denton Christian Preschool Supply Drive

The school was founded in 1970 by a group of concerned citizens representing 17 different churches who believed that the first few years of a child’s life are the most important. Art, school supplies, and basic necessities are donated to the school during the yearly event. Funds may be donated at standrewdenton.com/giving by choosing Denton Christian Preschool Supply Drive from the options to the right of your monetary donation. Contact coordinator, Rachel Odei, at rachelasantewaa1@gmail.com for more information.

The drive typically takes place during June & July, so watch for announcements in the bulletin and Shield for how you can contribute. For more information, contact coordinator, Linda Heilig at linda.heilig@verizon.net.

Friends of the Family Mother’s Day Gift Bags Project

The purpose of this project, which typically takes place yearly in April, is to give encouragement and bring a bright spot into the lives of homeless and less fortunate mothers in our community. You may donate new personal care and beauty products or donate funds online at standrewdenton.com/giving and choose Mother’s Day Gift Bags from the options to the right of your monetary donation. The Treehouse

The Treehouse After School Program

Housed here in the St. Andrew Rec Center, the Treehouse After School Program is a mission of the church that provides affordable after school care for students at four Denton ISD elementary campuses who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  We currently serve 14 students, with children ranging in age from kindergarten through 5th grade.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteer opportunities:  If you have a talent, interest, or hobby you would like to share with the Treehouse students or would like to spend 20 minutes reading with them or helping with homework, you are invited to come spend an afternoon with us.  Whether it’s weekly, monthly, or a one-time presentation, contact Stephanie Raesz, Treehouse director, at treehouse@standrewdenton.com to schedule a date.
Snack help:  For the past 18 months, Treehouse has been blessed to have a grant to help purchase afternoon snacks for our students.  However, that grant program hazzs ended.  We are looking for volunteers to help provide our daily snack beginning in January.  Snack volunteers will be provided a list of allowable snack options, and will be placed on a rotating schedule.  With enough participation, snack providers should only need to provide 1 or 2 times per month.  If you would like to be a snack volunteer, please contact Linda Heilig at l.heilig@verizon.net.
If you have questions about the Treehouse program or ideas for other ways you would like to contribute, please contact Stephanie Raesz, director, at treehouse@standrewdenton.com.
